The company was founded as a Scrap Metal & Salvage Yard / Scrap Yard in 1922 by Joseph S. Brown, who came to Goldsboro, North Carolina from Dayton, Ohio. In those days, the work was hard because most of the steel, for instance, had to be moved by hand.

Seymour Brown, his son, also known as “Junk Brown” began running the company in 1937. Under Seymour, the company became the “Emerald of the Scrap Metal Recycling Business in North Carolina. He build the largest Scrap Metal Salvage Yard in North Carolina. Having also purchased the location now known as Raleigh Metals Recycling, the Goldsboro and Raleigh locations became leaders in Scrap Metal Recycling: Steel, Copper, and Aluminum. Brass, etc. and even Aluminum Can recycling.

When he died in 1993, his wife, Lee Brown, assumed the company Presidency.

Upon Lee’s death, Seymour Brown’s daughters, Jo and Wendy, took the helm in 2001.

In August, 2007, the company was sold to Greg Brown, who began making major upgrades to the as Metal Recycling became an ever more important part of the Global economy.

Today, both yards in Raleigh and Goldsboro are thriving as they process and buy ferrous and non ferrous metals. Safety is First as we continue to grow and improve on efficiency, and most importantly, customer service.
